Foundress of the Sisters of St. Joseph the Worker

August 4th, 1923 – January 17th, 2008

A woman of great faith and fortitude, Mother Ellen Curran led the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph the Worker for 25 years as its first Superior General. The Holy Spirit inspired Mother Ellen with a vision of religious life that remained true to the teachings of the Church.

She lived what she taught: The spirit of the Congregation, that must be sought and developed by each member, is one of total abandonment to God through an all-embracing dedication to His Church. She trusted God completely and gave herself totally to the work of the Church.

Mother Ellen had compassion for the poor, the sick, and children who had difficulties in school. She had the heart of a mother, always giving of herself to provide for the needs of others.
